The ‘Simon Ringe’ Scout of the Year Award

The Scout of the Year award is an annual award that is presented to the Scout, selected by the leadership team, who represents the true purpose and aims of Scouting.

The Purpose of Scouting

The purpose of Scouting is to promote the development of young people in achieving their full physical, intellectual, social and spiritual potentials, as individuals, as responsible citizens and as members of their local, national and international communities.

The award is named after Simon Ringe, who was a 1st Crowborough Scout who lived life to the full, always representing Scouting and in particular 1st Crowborough in a really positive light. All of those who were fortunate to have known him will remember his enthusiasm, his sense of humour but overall his sense of fairness. He was always willing to step in-between those who were bullying others or putting others down. He always took part in all Scouting activities that were put on, especially the adventurous ones! Unfortunately Simon died in a road accident when he was 18, but his memory lives on in 1st Crowborough Scout Group with this award.

There was a presentation during Scouts Own at the centenary camp, where Jim and Sheila Ringe (Simon’s parents) presented the trophy to the Scout of the Year.
